American Anglican Council Launches Anglican Lawyers Network

The American Anglican Council (AAC) is organizing Anglican attorneys ahead of potential challenges to religious liberty in the U.S. 26 Anglican lawyers representing dioceses, congregations and church plants in the Anglican Church in North America came together for the first meeting of the Anglican Lawyers Network by the American Anglican Council. The AAC hosted the meeting during the Christian Legal Society’s (CLS) annual conference October, 21 2016 outside Washington, D.C. Retired ACNA Chancellor A. Hugo Blankingship shared his thoughts on “What it means to be a faithful Chancellor in the ACNA”

The Anglican lawyers Network will provide opportunities for Anglican attorneys to share resources and best practices, develop strong working relationships, and assist each other in anticipating legal challenges to freedom of religion in an increasingly secular culture.

“Anglican attorneys have been working together for years on church property issues, and discovered the value of sharing resources during those lawsuits,” said the Rev. Canon Phil Ashey, President and CEO of the American Anglican Council. “The AAC took the initiative to bring attorneys together then—and now more than ever, we need to organize ourselves to share and pray around the coming legal challenges to the free exercise of our faith from an aggressively secular culture.”

The network plans to gather once a year, and by internet between such meetings, to take counsel together on legal issues facing the dioceses and congregations within the Anglican Church in North America.
