Letter to the Rt. Rev. Alfred Olwa upon his Consecration

To our dear brother and friend in Christ, +Alfred, Bishop in God’s One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the American Anglican Council (including Archbishop Foley Beach, Archbishop Emeritus Robert Duncan, and Bishops Jack Iker, Eric Menees, Martyn Minns, Ray Sutton and Stephen Wood of the Anglican Church in North America), I bring you warmest greetings in the grace and love of Jesus Christ, with congratulations upon your election and, this day, your consecration as the Third Bishop of the Diocese of Lango, Church of Uganda.

In the words of the Apostle Paul “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you…being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”  (Phil. 1:3-6 KJV)

We rejoice in the gifts that you bring to the Church of Uganda:  Gifts of evangelistic preaching and teaching, theological reasoning and writing, and the Godly courage to banish all strange and erroneous doctrine from God’s Church.  We look forward to all of the ways God will use you, under the anointing of his Spirit, to proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of all to all peoples, and to strengthen all leaders, within the Anglican Communion.

I regret that I am not able to be with you this day to celebrate, but grateful that our dear sister and Trustee Carol Rogers Smith is here to deliver this in our place.  I hope you know how much affection in Christ comes with this greeting, with thanksgiving for opportunities to partner with you in mission now and in the days to come.

Your brother and servant in Christ,

The Rev. Canon J. Philip Ashey

President and CEO, The American Anglican Council
