What We All Need Now: Ephiphany and the Rehydrate Conference

The season of Epiphany bids us to meditate on the manifestations of God in our earthly world, when God showed up in ways people could see, hear, and touch. As the Magi observed the heavens (Matt. 2), their attention was drawn to a particular star. Modern historians of astronomy tell us that around the time of the birth of Christ, something like a star—perhaps a supernova—shone brightly in the sky. Many people saw an unusual heavenly phenomenon, but only the Magi saw the star as a compass pointing them to the Messiah. They had most likely read the prophet Daniel. God gave them wisdom that this starlike epiphany—a word that means manifestation—was from God. Then, they responded as God desired, and came to worship Jesus.

Like those heavenly signs, intelligent people can look at the same set of data and come to completely different conclusions. For example, think about the ACNA right now given the latest events. It’s reasonable to ask, where is God in all this?

The answer depends on what you’re looking for.

I believe that God is at work, in and through all our current messiness, in preparing a spotless bride for himself. Painful though these days are, evidently we need to go through them in faith. It is a season of pruning (John 15), which God designs for us to abide in Him more fully. God’s promise is that His pruning in each of us, and in our province, will lead to even greater fruitfulness.

Most importantly, I believe we need more of God. When we’re hurting and need guidance, assurance, and peace, we need to fly to God and seek His face. My strongest conviction about how to respond best is to diligently pray, alone and in groups, to seek God’s face, God’s wisdom, and even a visitation—a manifestation, an epiphany from Him.

Many among us are saying to ourselves, “I’m missing something—what am I missing?”  At the American Anglican Council (AAC) and Sharing our Ministries Abroad (SOMA), we think that what we need most in this hour is not a reliving of past renewals, but a fresh visitation from God. We need to see God the Holy Spirit reorient us to our first love. We need a fresh thirst for God to master us, to cause us to weep over our sins, to feel their weight, and to rejoice at our great salvation, and what He is doing in the church and world. We need to drink the living water of Jesus, which is fresh, clean, and moving. We need to confess the past sins of our movement, as well as the ongoing ones. We need to acknowledge that while the pursuit of spiritual gifts is good (1 Cor. 14:1), we need to pursue the fruit of the Spirit yet more diligently (1 Cor. 13). As Bishop Thad Barnum has said, we need to humbly seek God for the holiness that we desperately need.

This is why we invite you to come to the Rehydrate Conference at Christ Church, Savannah, on February 19-21, 2026. If the wells of the Holy Spirit in your life have been clogged by enemies (see Genesis 26), come gather with us as we plead together to our Lord, who is well able to clear out the gunk and refresh our souls with living water and empower us for mission.

Our featured speakers will include Bishops Thad Barnum, Darryl Fitzwater, and Marcio Meira. We’ll have extended times of prayer, soaking in His presence, and fellowship. We invite you to come for refreshing, refilling, and empowering, to seek the Lord and experience His fullness in greater measure. And if you can’t come, we do ask for you to please pray for us, that we would receive a visitation of the Holy Spirit and changed lives, not just for our sake but for the sake of the entire Church.

We hope to see you there!
