Watching and Ready: A Sermon on Mark 13

How should Christians follow Jesus in a time of distress and upheaval?  In this message given at Holy Cross Anglican Cathedral on November 29, Canon Phil Ashey describes how we should neither be surprised nor be taken hostage by current events.  Preaching from Mark 13, he expounds on the important truth that history belongs to God. History has a God-given purpose and end to it, and history is the stage on which God is perfecting both his plans and his purposes for us.  Instead, we should “be ready”:  confident in the enduring truth of God’s Word, looking at every event first with biblical lenses to find “where we are in God’s story,” and “wide awake” to his daily “Kingdom assignment” for us as we live with anticipation for his final return!
